Unhook ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application Unhook (the "App") and our website at unhook.pro (the "Website"). Please read this privacy policy carefully. By using the App or Website, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

Information We Collect

Device Information

When you first open the App, we automatically generate a unique device identifier to create your account. This allows you to use the App without providing an email address or any personal information. We may also collect your device name (e.g., "John's iPhone") for account identification purposes.

Smoking & Health Data

To provide our quit-smoking features, we collect information you voluntarily provide during onboarding and while using the App, including:

  • Number of cigarettes smoked per day
  • Years of smoking history
  • Cost per pack of cigarettes and currency
  • Quit date
  • Daily mood logs and craving records
  • Breathing exercise completion data
  • Achievement and milestone progress

This data is stored locally on your device using a secure SQLite database and is not transmitted to our servers unless you use features that require server communication (such as AI Coach).

AI Coach Conversations

If you use our AI Coach feature, the messages you send are transmitted to our servers and processed using third-party AI services (Anthropic Claude API). Your conversation history, along with contextual data (days quit, cigarettes per day, smoking years, money saved, and preferred language), is sent to provide personalized coaching responses. Chat history is stored on our servers and linked to your device identifier.

Purchase Information

If you subscribe to Unhook Premium, your purchase is processed entirely through Apple's App Store. We receive a transaction ID and product identifier to verify and activate your subscription. We do not collect, store, or have access to your payment details, credit card information, or Apple ID.

Notifications

We may send you in-app notifications related to your quit-smoking journey, achievements, and motivational content. Notification preferences and read status are synced with our servers.

Feedback

If you choose to submit feedback through the App, we collect the message content and feedback type. This data is associated with your device identifier.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create and manage your account without requiring personal information
  • Track your quit-smoking progress, including days smoke-free, money saved, cigarettes avoided, and health recovery milestones
  • Provide personalized AI coaching to help you manage cravings and stay motivated
  • Deliver guided breathing exercises and craving management tools
  • Unlock and display achievements based on your progress
  • Process and manage Premium subscriptions
  • Send relevant notifications about your journey and milestones
  • Improve and optimize our App and services

Data Storage & Security

Local Storage

The majority of your data — including your smoking profile, daily logs, mood entries, craving records, breathing exercise history, and achievements — is stored locally on your device using a secure SQLite database. This data never leaves your device unless you use server-dependent features like AI Coach.

Server Storage

Data that requires server communication (AI Coach conversations, notifications, feedback, and Premium subscription status) is stored on our secure servers hosted in data centers with industry-standard security measures. Data is transmitted using HTTPS/TLS encryption and authenticated via JWT (JSON Web Tokens).

Security Measures

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including encrypted data transmission (HTTPS), secure authentication tokens, and access controls. However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Third-Party Services

Our App integrates with the following third-party services:

Anthropic (Claude AI)

Powers our AI Coach feature. When you use AI Coach, your messages and relevant context data are sent to Anthropic's API for processing. Please refer to Anthropic's Privacy Policy for information on how they handle data.

Apple App Store

Handles all in-app purchase transactions for Premium subscriptions. We only receive transaction verification data. Apple's privacy practices are governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

Google Sign-In (Optional)

If you choose to sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture URL from Google. This is entirely optional — you can use the App without any Google account. See Google's Privacy Policy.

Data Sharing & Disclosure

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share your information only in the following circumstances:

  • Service Providers:With third-party services that help us operate the App (e.g., Anthropic for AI processing), strictly for the purpose of providing our services.
  • Legal Requirements:If required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request.
  • Safety:To protect the rights, property, or safety of Unhook, our users, or the public.

Language & Localization

The App supports 22 languages. Your language preference is stored locally on your device and is sent to our servers only when using the AI Coach feature, to ensure responses are provided in your preferred language. We do not use language preferences for tracking or profiling purposes.

Children's Privacy

Our App is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 17. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 17. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 17, we will take steps to delete that information as quickly as possible. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access: Request a copy of the data we hold about you
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your data from our servers. Local data can be deleted by uninstalling the App
  • Correction: Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Restriction: Request restriction of processing of your data
  • Portability: Request your data in a structured, machine-readable format
  • Withdraw Consent: Stop using server-dependent features at any time; core tracking features work entirely offline

Data Retention

Local data remains on your device until you delete the App. Server-side data (AI Coach history, notifications, feedback) is retained for as long as your account is active. If you request account deletion, we will remove all server-side data associated with your device identifier within 30 days. Anonymized, aggregated data that cannot identify you may be retained for analytical purposes.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes. Changes are effective when they are posted on this page.
